As I have just returned from a lovely trip to Marrakesh I thought I would talk about sun care. As a pale red head I always wear sun cream even in the winter. I wear a lightweight factor fifty or thirty. It doesn’t have to be sunny to cause harm to the skin. Prolonged time in the sun without protection is the number one cause of ageing and can cause skin cancer. If like me you are pale and interesting I would advise minimal time in the sun make the shade your friend. Just think how young you will look!

I just want to set the record straight about high factors in sun care. A high factor does not prevent you from getting a tan what is does mean is that you can stay in the sun thirty, or fifty times longer. Even if I had skin that tanned well I would still be wearing a high factor such as thirty or fifty. Lets face it who wants to age prematurely.

When choosing a sun cream first of all I go by factor the higher the better then I go for formula. A  lightweight cream is best as it won’t overload the skin and you can put make-up over it if required. When I’m choosing suncreams for work I have to make sure they don’t contain zinc as this can cause flash back. Not the best look for fashion or beauty.

Once you have selected your suncream make sure you apply it regularly if you are on holiday. Even if it says its waterproof I would still be cautious and top up. (In the winter in the UK a morning application to the face is fine.) If you do feel yourself burning get out of the sun or cover up. Its not worth the pain or damage and the skin will more than likely peel rather than go brown!

Six of the best.

1.Bioderma spf 50 high protection fluid £14 Lloyds pharmacy great for the face lightweight just sinks in you don’t know it’s there and it doesn’t cause flash back.

2.Bioderma high protection spray spf 50 £7.49 Europara. Suitable for face and body super light weight as above the spray makes it easy to use on holiday. Its also very cheap!

3. Lancaster satin seen oil spf 30 £24 Debenhams. This is an old fav its great on the body on shoots as it gives a gorgeous gleam. its again lightweight and keeps the skin silky smooth.

4. Nivea sun invisible protection SPF 20 £7.40 Boots. A bit of a lower SPF for you. This is really easy to apply it absorbs straight away and its waterproof. with this SPF its great for English summers.

5. Sunleya global anti-age sun care spf 30 £158 http://www.sisley-paris.com. This is my sun tan lotion of choice. It works really well with my skin. I also tend to use this the Bioderma and Lancaster on shoots abroad. The combination of the three work well.

6. Super soin solaire spf30 ‘Youth Protector’ £83 http://www.sisley-paris.com. This is super lovely and so easy to use. I was able to put this on so quickly before the shoot started. It gave me good protection and I felt moisturised.
